Carrollton, GA – The UWG Wolves hosted the Columbus State Cougars at Cole Field on Wednesday afternoon. The Cougars took the first game against the Wolves earlier this season in Columbus 11-2. Despite West Georgia's first strike in today's contest, the Cougars handed UWG a 6-1 loss in midweek action.
The Wolves put the first run on the board in the bottom of the first on a #Tanner Drennan# single to right field that drove in catcher #
Evan Hester#. That was the bulk of the UWG offense in the contest, as the Wolves would not score again in the game.
#
Alex Wilson# started on the mound for the Wolves today, going three innings and giving up three earned runs. Wilson gave up three hits during his work on the day. #
Dustin Brantley# came in to pitch 2.2 innings following Wilson. Brantley did not give up a hit until the sixth inning. The Cougars drew a couple of walks and found two hits to knock in two runs.
Freshman #
Blake McLemore# relieved Brantley in the sixth inning by throwing one pitch to get out of the jam. McLemore would continue to pitch on through the eighth inning, giving up only one hit and a walk and did not allow a run.
#
Alex Allen# would pitch the top of the ninth for the Wolves. He would give up a solo homerun which put Columbus at their sixth run on the night.
Leading the Wolves offensively was Drennan with a hit and the Wolves only RBI on the game. Also with hits were Hester, #
Adam Whitlock#, #
Garrett May#, and #
Brett Wright#.
The Wolves next matchup will be this Saturday against Alabama-Huntsville in Carrollton at Cole Field. It will be a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. and the series will conclude on Sunday at 1 p.m.
