Carrollton, GA – The UWG Baseball squad hosted the Alabama-Huntsville Chargers Saturday afternoon at Cole Field. The Chargers won the day, using big innings to take both ends of the doubleheader. UAH took the opener 8-1, followed by a 10-4 victory in the afternoon session.
The first game was a pitching duel until the top of the sixth inning when starting Wolves pitcher, #
Chase Riemer#, gave up three runs on four hits, including a solo homerun. The Chargers would put the game out of reach in the top of the ninth after scoring five runs on three hits.
Freshman #
Marquise Vialet# was 3-for-3 in game one with a run scored. All three hits for Vialet were singles with one being a perfectly executed bunt down the third baseline where the Charger corner man had no choice but to let it roll.
Riemer had a fine outing with the exception of his final inning. The right-hander went five and two-thirds innings and gave up eight hits and three earned runs. Riemer had the Chargers scoreless until two outs in the top of the sixth. #
Randall Wright# relieved Riemer and finished out the game. Wright gave up four hits and four earned runs while walking four. Riemer would receive the loss in game one.
Other Wolves contributing to their nine total hits were #
Brett Wright# and #
Galen Smith# who each had two hits each.
Brett Wright knocked in the only run for the Wolves in the bottom of the third with a ground-ball single to right-field scoring Vialet. Also adding to the hit count were #
Stuart Drew# and #Tanner Drennan# each with a hit.
Game 2
In game two of the day, the Chargers struck first in the contest, scoring once in the second inning and then once again in the third. The Wolves would answer in the bottom of the fourth with a four-run inning.
A Drew single started the inning off, followed by a Wright being hit by a pitch. An #
Evan Hester# sacrifice bunt moved up the runners an extra base. After #
Adam Whitlock# walked, Drennan hit a sac-fly to center field to bring in Drew. Smith would single next to drive in Wright and then another single by #
Bradford Mattox# would score two Wolves and put UWG in front by a 4-2 count.
The top of the fifth would end up erasing the four-run inning by the Wolves as UAH would score eight runs on five hits and four walks. The Chargers sent 13 batters to the plate that inning with the Wolves going through four pitchers.
#Max Aeschilmann# got the start for the Wolves today. He would last four innings and gave up seven hits and five earned runs. Aeschilmann would receive the loss in this game, which puts him at 4-4 on the season. #

Alex Wilson# saw some innings in this game as well.
Leading the Wolves offense was Mattox with his two-RBI single in the bottom of the fourth inning. Smith and Drennan also knocked in a run each. Other Wolves with hits were Drew, Wright, #
