Freshmen Make the Difference in Wolves Win

Carrollton, GA – The Coker Cobras traveled to Cole Field today to take on the West Georgia Wolves on a beautiful but chilly Tuesday evening. This game stayed very close all the way through but it was the performance of two freshmen that was the difference in this match-up, as the youngsters helped give the Wolves a 9-7 victory, number 10 on the season.

With the absence of two team leaders, #Andy Marinelli# and #Dylan Coleman#, freshmen shortstop #Luke Williamson# and infielder/pitcher #Marquise Vialet# got to see a great deal more playing time.

Tonight, these two players helped the Wolves pull out a huge win in front of the home crowd. Williamson led the Wolves tonight with four hits, two RBI's, and three runs scored. He also belted a homer, for one of his four hits, to lead-off the bottom of the fifth inning that sparked a five-run rally by the Wolves. The designated hitter for the night, Vialet, went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored and also homered in the game. Both were the first home runs of their careers.

Getting the start tonight for the Wolves was freshman #Dustin Brantley#, who went 3.1 innings, giving up six hits and three earned runs while striking out four. Junior #Chase Riemer# relieved Brantley in the bottom of the fourth and went on to throw two more innings, giving up four hits and two earned runs.

#Blake McLemore# pitched the seventh inning and held the Cobras scoreless. #Jamie Sexton# pitched the eighth and ninth inning and earned the save tonight, allowing no hits and striking out three. Riemer picked up the victory, his first of the season.

Another UWG player who was an enormous help tonight was third baseman #Garrett May#, who tripled in the bottom of the fifth with the bases loaded, scoring all three runners. This was a huge spark for the Wolves and it would be all the runs they would need. First baseman #Adam Whitlock# had some key hits on the night as well, going 3-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.

The Wolves will wrap up this two game series Wednesday at Cole Field, with the first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m.
