Rome, GA - The curtain closed on the 2012 UWG baseball season Sunday afternoon at State Mutual Field in Rome, as the Wolves fell 5-1 to fourth seed North Alabama on the third day of the 2012 Gulf South Conference Baseball Championship Tournament.

The story of the game was a common one from the rest of the 2012 season, as West Georgia pushed just one run across the plate despite nine hits on the day. UWG starting pitcher #Cody Skinner# went the route, allowing three earned runs and five total runs on nine hits in the contest, falling to 6-5 on the season.

North Alabama jumped on the board first in this one, as Jake Sloan's one-out single in the bottom of the first inning scored Michael Schmidt to open the scoring on the day. That would be it for several innings, as neither team could break through. For West Georgia, Skinner was on a roll, sitting the UNA lineup down in order in the second, third and fourth innings.

West Georgia threatened in the second and third innings, as the Wolves had a runner on base in scoring position in the top half of each inning when the final out was made.

The Lions put the game out of reach in the bottom of the fifth, when they added two more runs to the tally, then handed the ball over the the UNA bullpen. The Wolves scored a run in the top of the sixth on a sacrifice fly from senior #Andy Marinelli#, who brought home junior #Bradford Mattox# for the only run of the contest for West Georgia.

In the bottom of the eighth, a pair of errors led to a pair of North Alabama runs, ensuring the final score.

West Georgia closes the season with a 23-25 record after collecting the most team wins in Gulf South Conference play (9), since the 2006 season. The Wolves won their first GSC tournament game since 1998, a 10-3 victory over the West Alabama Tigers in Rome on Friday.
