Senior night sweep for Wolves

Carrollton, GA - The West Georgia Wolves committed just eight hitting errors Friday night at The Coliseum and the 2013 senior class rose to the occasion as UWG secured a third-place spot at next week's Gulf South Conference tournament with a 3-0 victory over Christian Brothers.

Coming into the evening, the two teams were tied for third place in the conference, as each had an 8-8 record in GSC play. CBU had the upper hand before Friday's match, winning the first meeting by a 3-2 count. After West Georgia's 3-0 win, the Wolves now hold two tiebreakers over CBU and lead the Bucs by one game in the standings with one to play.

In the first set, the Wolves took the first lead at 5-2, but CBU erased that lead and flipped it, taking a two-point lead at 14-12. But with junior setter #Amanda Miller# on serve, the Wolves reeled off seven straight points to take a 19-14 advantage and never looked back, winning the set 25-16.

The second set was an offensive clinic on both sides, as the Wolves hit .457 in the frame while the Bucs hit .429. In the end, West Georgia committed just one error to CBU's three, which ended up being the final difference as UWG won 25-23. The set was all tied up at 23 when #Emily Reul# picked up a kill, followed by a #Kendall Williams# kill that put West Georgia on top 25-23.

In the third set, the Wolves had another seven-point run that put UWG ahead for good and Williams yet again finished off the set and the match with a kill on the final point.

The seniors were three of the four players on the night who had double-digit numbers. Reul had 12 kills to lead the effort, followed by #Lesley Bemis# with 10. #Melissa Holt# added 13 digs and became just the third player in school history to have 500 digs in a season. The fourth was Miller, who had 29 assists in the match.

The 2013 regular season closes out on Saturday afternoon at The Coliseum, as the Wolves play host to the Union Bulldogs. West Georgia's first round opponent at next weekend's GSC tournament is yet to be determined, but the Wolves will likely play either West Alabama or North Alabama on Friday, November 22 at 8:30 p.m. (EST) in Pensacola, Fla.
