Wolves Set to Open Season Against Miles

Carrollton, GA - After nearly eight months of waiting, baseball is set to return to Cole Field, as the 2013 UWG baseball season kicks off tomorrow with a doubleheader against Miles College tomorrow starting at 1:00PM.

UWG at a Glance
Head coach Skip Fite and company will be looking to add to last season's improvement and with seven returning starters, the Wolves have that potential heading into the weekend series against Miles College.  The Wolves won the most Gulf South Conference games since 2005 last season, going 23-25 overall with a 9-13 record. West Georgia also won their first postseason game last year since 1998.

Miles at a Glance
The Miles College Golden Bears have played solid baseball over the past five years, with winning records in each of those seasons. Last year Miles overall record was 24-18 and they also ranked second in their western division at 15-6. Miles has twelve returning players this year behind head coach Kenneth Hatcher, Sr.

UWG Batters to Watch
Returning for the Wolves is 2012 All-Gulf South Conference performer #Evan Hester#, who was named Preseason All-GSC in late January. Last season, Hester hit .335 last year with 40 RBI. Another big bat in the Wolves lineup is third baseman #TJ Eifert# who batted .324 at Calhoun Junior College and also showed some power with six home runs.

Miles Batters to Watch
Miles has some key players coming back this year. A major part of their offense and player to look out for in the weekend series is OF/P Justin Langdale. He batted .336 in 36 starts his freshman year. Additionally, Miles has second baseman Anthony Jones who had a solid season last year batting .338.

UWG Pitchers to Watch
Chase Riemer may be a key starter to look out for this weekend. He finished the 2012 season with a 4-2 record, posting 36 strikeouts in 46 innings of work. Cody Skinner is another big time player with a 6-5 record last year. He was tied for the most wins in the 2012 season, and he has great stamina with three complete games pitched.

Last Year
The Wolves had success last year against Miles College. They matched-up in two games last year, one home and one away, and West Georgia came away with both wins. The last matchup came down to the final inning when Adam Whitlock hit a walk-off line drive hit in the ninth inning to win the game 5-4. With that game coming towards the end of the season last year, Miles has to have that fresh in their mind coming into this weekend series matchup.
