Carrollton, GA – The UWG (7-3) baseball squad tried to complete the series sweep today against the Fighting Knights from Lynn University (4-5). The Wolves all day could not capitalize with runners on base and it ended up being the difference losing 2-0.
 
#Jamie Sexton# got the Sunday start for the Wolves today. Sexton had another great outing pitching six and two-thirds innings and giving up only one earned run. After running into some trouble in the seventh inning, he was relieved by #Max Aeschlimann#. Aeschlimann would finish out the game for West Georgia going two and one-third innings giving up zero hits and zero runs while striking out two.
 
UWG had no problem getting on base earning eight hits and three walks but could not profit from any of them. The story of the day for the Wolves however was “runners left on base”. West Georgia left 11 runners stranded in their nine innings of play.

There were a couple of innings where the Wolves could have opened things up. The bottom of the fifth saw the bases loaded with one out for West Georgia with two of the hottest hitters so far in the season coming up, but a strikeout and groundout later would end that rally. Again in the bottom of the seventh. Bases loaded with one out, UWG has two hot hitters coming to the plate but the rally ends with nothing to show for it.
 
Offensively for the Wolves, #Blake McLemore# had a great showing getting three hits and drawing a walk. Center-fielder #Jake Shirley# also had a multi-hit game going 2-for-5.
 
The Wolves fall to 7-3 on the season. Their next home match will be this Tuesday, February 19 at 3:00 pm against Young Harris.
