UWG Takes on In-State Opponent Young Harris

Carrollton, GA - UWG baseball gets ready to match up against Young Harris this Wednesday, February 20. The game was originally scheduled for this Tuesday, but because of the weather forecast, the game was postponed. Wednesday's first pitch is set to be thrown out at 3 p.m.

Young Harris at a Glance
The Young Harris Mountain Lions have had early success this season and are currently sitting at 5-2 on the year. The Mountain Lions dropped their first two games against Brevard, but are currently in the midst of a five-game winning streak. The Mountain Lions are a relatively young team, led by head coach Rick Robinson, who has just three seniors on his roster.

UWG at a Glance
The Wolves have also seen some early success in the 2013 campaign. West Georgia has won 2 out of 3 games in each of the past two weekend series, which has built their record at home to 5-1 and 7-3 overall. In his fourth season at the helm of the UWG progam, head coach Skip Fite and his squad have begun the 2013 season with the best record in his years at UWG thus far. In his first season, the Wolves were 3-7 through the first 10 games, followed by 4-6 in his second year. Last year, West Georgia was 6-4 through the first 10 games.

Young Harris Batters to Watch
Outfielder Trey Rogers may be the most consistent hitter for Young Harris this year, batting .406 with 10 runs scored. He has also showed some signs of power with two homeruns on the year already. However, David Atwood could quite possibly be the most dangerous hitter on the YHC roster, as he leading the team in doubles (4) and in RBIs (8).

UWG Batters to Watch
#Blake McLemore# has stepped up his game this year. He is batting .389, leading the team in hits (14) and runs scored (10). Another player to look out for is freshman #John-Mark Rhodes#. Rhodes normally bats in the five hole, so if there are runners on base, look for him to pick up some key RBIs. Rhodes has started every game this year and also leads the team in stolen bases with seven in seven attempts.

Young Harris Pitchers to Watch
The Mountain Lions come into Wednesday's match-up with a team ERA of 2.90 on the season with nine pitchers on the staff who have an ERA of less than 3.50. The Young Harris pitchers have thrown 59 innings total on the season and boast 54 strikeouts to 26 walks. On the opposite side, the Mountain Lions have surrendered nine home runs in just seven games.

UWG Pitchers to Watch
In the Wolves' quest to extend their season this year to potentially a regional, Fite has built solid depth in the starting pitcher rotation and has looked to senior fireballer #Cody Skinner# for mid-week starting jobs this season. Skinner has thrown eight innings with nine strikeouts to just three walks. The Ranburne native picked up his first victory of the year last weekend against Lynn, as he came on in relief in game two of Saturday's doubleheader. He threw 2.2 innings of shutout baseball and had three strikeouts in the game. West Georgia has also had success out of the bullpen. #Max Aeschilmann# has made four appearances picking up six strikeouts and also recording a key save this past weekend so look for him to come into the game if it is close late.
