The Wolves wrapped up game one with the final score 8-0. Sexton picked up his second win of the season moving to 2-1. Dalton Self was credited with the loss for Paine. Self went seven innings and surrendered five earned runs.
Game two was much more of the same for UWG as the pitching was dominant and bats were alive.
The starting pitcher for the Wolves in game two was #
Chase Riemer#, who also gave the Wolves a complete game performance, coming away with the win as he struck out eight batters and only walking one. West Georgia struck hard and fast in game two. In the first inning the Wolves put up four hits and scored six runs, taking advantage of four Lion errors in the frame.
The first run came when Coleman reached on a fielding error, which allowed #
Blake McLemore# came into score for the Wolves on the error. A few batters later, Eifert picked up two more RBIs when he singled through the left side. Later in the inning, McLemore came up to the plate again as the Wolves batted around, picking up an RBI after a single through the left side scoring McClure.
Major action resumed once again in the bottom of the sixth inning. UWG went on to put up six runs off of five hits and one error surrendered by Paine.
The big hit in the inning came off of the bat of senior
Evan Hester. Hester belted a ball to the left field warning track scoring #
Jake Shirley#, and McLemore. The last run in the inning came when McClure singled into left field scoring Brantley. By the time the dust settled at the end of the sixth, the Wolves held a 14-0 advantage.
That indeed was how the game wrapped up as Riemer went on to shut Paine down in the top of the seventh inning, moving the senior to 3-1 on the year. The losing pitcher in the game for the Lions was J.T. Hyer. Hyer only pitched that first inning, but the damage was done early in this evening's game.
UWG improves their record to 9-4 on the year, while Paine falls to 2-7. West Georgia now prepares for a weekday game this Wednesday, February 27, against Georgia College and State University (GCSU). The game will be played down in Milledgeville at 2:00 p.m.
