UWG at a Glance
Head coach
Skip Fite is hoping to continue the hot streak the Wolves have gotten off to. The Wolves swept Miles College this past weekend in a three game series and they are off to a 3-0 record for the first time in recent memory. The bats were alive and pitching was solid in the three contests.
CSU at a Glance
The Columbus State Cougars are 1-2 on the year after losing two of three to Nova Southeastern this past weekend. Columbus was outdone on the scoreboard but the Cougars did rack up 30 hits in the weekend series. CSU struggled with their pitching in the latter parts of the game as their bullpen gave up twenty five runs in just twelve innings.
UWG Batters to Watch
Many Wolves have gotten off to a great start, but there are a few players for people to keep their eyes on. Starting at the top of the order, the Wolves are hoping for
Shaquille Jackson to keep his hot streak alive. He is currently 7-for-12 at the plate and has four stolen bases. Shaquille has been a superb lead-off man this year seeing a lot pitches and being a menace on the base path. Another guy to watch is all-conference player last year
Evan Hester. Hester is batting .545 through eleven at bats. He has also driven in two runs this year and looks to bring in some more batting in the three hole for the Wolves.
CSU Batters to Watch
A key player on the Columbus State is senior catcher Brett Teschner. Through the first three games Teschner is 6-for-12 with two doubles. Another Columbus State player who has gotten off to a hot start is junior short stop Jimmy Obermark who is batting .364 with 6 RBI.
Last Year
The Wolves struggled last year against the Columbus State Cougars. They lost the first game 11-2 at Columbus. West Georgia got off to a rocky start giving up five runs in the first three innings. Even with back-to-back home runs from Garrett May and
Evan Hester, it was not enough to comeback from that big deficit. The second game was a little closer, but again the Wolves struggled to get something going offensively. In the second contest West Georgia took an early lead scoring in the first, but they could not sustain the lead and lost 6-1.
