Carrollton, GA - The UWG baseball team started off the season 3-0 after sweeping Miles College in a three game series last weekend, but could not bring that momentum into Columbus on Wednesday afternoon. Columbus State used a nine-run fifth inning to propel the Cougars to a 26-12 victory over the Wolves.
West Georgia pitching was hit hard on the evening, facing 54 batters and giving up 30 hits. The Cougars came out swinging and the players rallied around each other to put up 26 runs. Columbus State moves to a 2-2 record on the season, while West Georgia falls to 3-1.
Although the team struggled today there were several individual performances that stood out. Center fielder #
Shaquille Jackson# continued his hot first week, going 4-for-6 with three RBI and two stolen bases. Also, shortstop #
Dylan Coleman# hit the first home run of the season for the Wolves.
The Wolves will turn their focus on their next opponent, the Augusta State Jaguars. The Jaguars are 2-1 on the season after winning 2 of 3 games against Carson-Newman last weekend.
The first game is Saturday, February 9, at 2:00 p m. in Augusta. Sunday is a doubleheader with the first pitch being thrown out at 1:00PM.
