Carrollton, GA - The Wolves battled back today to win against West Alabama 5-1, as they salvaged the series after losing both ends of the doubleheader on Saturday.
After a Saturday slate where the UWG bats were largely silent, West Georgia got back on track Sunday afternoon, scoring five runs on eight hits while UWG starter #
Jamie Sexton# went the distance, allowing a run on seven hits while striking out six.
The Wolves got on the board early in the game when #
Evan Hester# came to the plate and hit a double down the left field line. #
Shaquille Jackson# came was on second and came into score on the hit.
The Tigers answered right back in the bottom of the second inning when Joel Murphy singled into left field scoring Josh Podoris tying the game 1-1.
The Wolves took the lead for good in the fourth inning when #
TJ Eifert# scored on an error from the UWA short stop. Later in the top of the sixth, the Wolves added another run as #
Tyler Landmon# scored on a failed pickoff attempt. This gave Sexton all the cushion he needed, as the junior settled down over the final half of the game.
UWG tacked two more runs on the scoreboard in the top of the seventh when #
Dustin Brantley# came up with a clutch hit as he doubled to center field scoring two runs.
The Wolves now move to 15-6 on the year and 4-2 in conference. Next up is this Wednesday, March 13, against Georgia College. The game will start at 3:00 p.m. and was switched from the original schedule two weeks ago, when the Wolves and Bobcats moved the first meeting to Carrollton. This week's contest will be in Milledgeville.
