Bobcats Rally to Take Down UWG

Carrollton, GA - The University of West Georgia took on Georgia College this afternoon and it was a long afternoon for the Wolves at John Kertz Field, as UWG got off to a commanding lead but let it slip through their hands, falling just short 9-6.

Both teams struggled fielding the ball today as the winds were blowing rapidly down in Milledgeville. The combined teams committed nine errors in the field with West Georgia committing six.

The Wolves got off to an outstanding start in the game, scoring six runs in the first inning, as it almost appeared as if the game would be a blowout. Lyndon Meadows started on the mound for the Bobcats, and his outing was a short one. He walked the leadoff man #Blake McLemore# and then proceeded to hit the next batter, #Dylan Coleman#.

Patrick Olvaney came into the game for Meadows to try to settle things down, but he was not successful in that first inning. #Evan Hester# came up to the plate and hit a sacrifice fly out to right field in which scored McLemore. #Dustin Brantley# came up to the plate a couple batters later and singled into right center scoring Coleman making the score 2-0.

#TJ Eifert#, Brantley, #Galen Smith#, and #Tyler Landmon# all came into score later in the inning, as the Wolves wrapped up the inning with six runs on the board. Eifert went 2-for-4 in the game and also picked up an RBI.

Head Coach Skip Fite gave the ball to #Jonathon Black# to start the game today. Black came into the game with a 3-1 record on the year. He looked good in the first inning, retiring three batters quickly and only surrendering one walk.

However, the Bobcats struck back at the Wolves in the second inning. The trouble started when shortstop Daniel Bick reached first on an error from Brantley. Bick came into score a few pitches later off a failed pickoff attempt by Black to give Georgia College their first run of the game.

The Bobcats put up four runs in the inning, mostly due to a key double from Mikee Moore who hit a shot into left center field. At the end of the second, the Bobcats were creeping back into the game with a score of 6-4.

Georgia College put up three more runs in the fifth inning, one in the sixth, and another in the eighth. West Georgia tried to find an answer to their hitting as they went through six pitchers on the day.

The final score in the game was Georgia College 9 and University of West Georgia 6. The winning pitcher for Georgia College was John Clark who moves to 3-1 on the year and Matt Lamothe picked up the save. The losing pitcher for the Wolves was #Cody Skinner#.

Georgia College moves to 13-7 on the year and will get ready to play Francis Marion. UWG moves to 15-7 on the year and remains 4-2 in conference. Their next opponent will be GSC opponent Shorter College, who they will play at Cole Field this weekend.
