Carrollton, GA – The UWG baseball squad hosted the Shorter Hawks today at Cole Field for a Gulf South doubleheader. The Wolves completed a come-from-behind win in game one for a final score of 6-5, then in game two the Hawks jumped out in front and  never relinquished their lead, winning 7-4.
 
Game 1: Shorter jumped out to a sizable lead in the first inning getting four runs on three hits. The Hawks capitalized on Wolves' errors made during the inning. UWG would respond in the bottom half of the inning sending three runs across the plate on three hits. #Shaquille Jackson# would lead off the inning with a walk, then three straight hits by #Dylan Coleman#, #Evan Hester# and #TJ Eifert# would knock in the first two runs. A groundout to first by #Galen Smith# gave UWG their third and final run of the inning.
 
The two teams would trade runs in the third inning, putting the score at 5-4 Shorter. The Wolves in the bottom of the sixth gained the lead after great situational hitting. #Tyler Landmon# led off the inning with a drag-bunt single. He then was moved over on a sacrifice bunt by #Seth McClure#. After Jackson reached on an infield hit, the Wolves had runners on the corners with their two and three hitters coming to the plate. Hester came through hitting a double down the third baseline on the first pitch he saw from the Shorter reliever. The Wolves held on to the lead and went on to win the game 6-5.

The winning pitcher was #Chase Riemer# ,who pitched six innings giving up seven hits and two earned runs. #Cody Skinner# and #Max Aeschlimann# combined for the relief effort, pitching the last three innings and giving up two hits and zero runs. Aeschlimann earned his fourth save of the season and Riemer earned his fifth win of the season.
 
Jackson, Coleman and Hester each had multi-hit games and combined 6-12 on the day. Hester added three RBIs to his name as well.
 
Game 2: The second game started off similar to the first as the Hawks would jump out to an early lead putting a two-spot on the Wolves' starting pitcher #Randall Wright#.  Wright would go on to pitch only two innings for West Georgia. Cody Skinner relieved Wright and finished out the game pitching five innings and giving up five hits and three earned runs.
 
The Hawks put two more runs on the board in the top of the third and three more in the top of the fifth. UWG got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning on a Galen Smith RBI-single to right field and a RBI-double by Dylan Coleman.
 
The Wolves would go scoreless in the fifth but inched a little closer in the sixth sending another two runs across the plate. A pinch-hit double by #Trey Dickson# and a infield single by Smith would knock in two. UWG would go three up, three down in the bottom of the seventh to end the game. West Georgia and Shorter both sit at 5-3 in the GSC.
