Carrollton, GA - The Wolves played in an exciting first game against Coker College this afternoon, but ultimately fell to the Cobras 8-6.

Head Coach Skip Fite went with #Alex Allen# on the mound to start the game for UWG. This was Allen's first start on the season, as Coach Fite normally uses him late in games to pick up saves.

Allen had a tough first inning, as the Cobras were swinging hot bats and put up three quick runs. The first run of the game came off a bases loaded walk from Allen scoring Justin Blechle. Keith Wolf scored on the next play as the Wolves surrendered the run for a double play up the middle. Coker took a 3-0 lead when the inning was finished.

#Clint Beland# came into the game for the Wolves in the bottom of the third for Allen with runners on second and third with one out. Fico Kondla was the first batter he faced and got him to pop up into a double play that ended the inning and to get out of the jam.

The Wolves got their bats going in the top of the fifth inning when they tallied up four runs. The rally began when #Jake Shirley# singled into right center. #Dylan Coleman# came up later in the game singling into center field to score Shirley and also moving
#Tyler Landmon# over to third base who later scored on a wild pitch.

#Blake McLemore# came up later in the inning with two on and two out and came through with a clutch two out double down the left field line to bring in #Evan Hester# and Coleman. With that big hit, the Wolves took a 4-3 lead.

In the bottom of the inning, the Cobras answered right back with a run of their own. Loraine doubled into left field scoring Wolf from second base tying the game 4-4. #Randall Wright# then came into the game on the mound for UWG.

As scoring was a commonality in the middle innings, the Wolves broke the tie in the top of the sixth when Landmon doubled into right field scoring Shirley from first base. Landmon eventually came into score when the right fielder on Coker made a throwing error. After the top of the sixth, the Wolves regained control of the lead with a score of 6-4.

The Cobras scored one in the bottom half of that sixth inning, and then they added three more in the top of the seventh to take an 8-6 lead which they held onto for the rest of the game.

Wolves out hit Coker 14 to 10, but UWG left 11 runners on base in the game. McLemore did his part in the game with a solid performance going 4-for-5 with two RBIs.

The next game will be played tomorrow at 3:00 p.m.
