Carrollton, GA - The University of West Georgia baseball team opened conference play today against the Christian Brothers Buccaneers. Despite the bitter cold at Cole Field, the Wolves prevailed with a 5-3 victory in the GSC opener Saturday afternoon.
This weekend's series schedule has been altered because of the weather. Saturday was originally supposed to be a doubleheader, but due to the cold weather, the second game was pushed back until tomorrow. The two teams will now meet on Sunday at noon for the series doubleheader.

Chase Riemer# to start the series. Riemer pitched a solid game, going seven innings and only allowing three runs off of four hits. Riemer also picked up nine strikeouts in the outing.

The Bucs scored first on the Wolves today when designated hitter Charles Kelly flied out to right field scoring center fielder Jarrett Jenkins.
However, UWG responded in the bottom half of the inning. The Wolves strung together five hits in the inning scoring #

Seth McClure#. After the inning the Wolves took a 3-1 lead.
In the top of fourth, CBU got their revenge as they picked up two runs. Riemer had a bit of a rough inning as he walked the first batter and then the second batter singled to center field. Later in the inning, one runner scored as Riemer threw a wild pitch. The second run came off the bat of Caleb Goodwin when he had a sacrifice fly.
The end of the fireworks came in the bottom half of the sixth inning when the Wolves finally pulled away for good. #
Tyler Landmon# came up to the plate with runners on first and third and came through with a clutch single scoring #

Shaquille Jackson# came up later in the game adding some insurance to the Wolves lead when he also singled into right field. #
Keith Borger# came into score on the hit and UWG took a 5-3 lead.
#Max Aeschilmann# came in for relief in the eighth inning for Riemer. Aeschilmann was lights out as he only allowed one hit and picked up the save.
West Georgia is now 11-4 on the year, and the Wolves will play Christian Brothers tomorrow in a double header. The first game will be played at noon, with the second game to follow 30 minutes later. Come out and support your Wolves and do not forget your blankets!
