UWG at a Glance
West Georgia is a dangerous a team to play right now. Currently on a six game winning streak, the Wolves are coming off a sweep of their first GSC opponent Christian Brothers. Head Coach
Skip Fite is thrilled with all of the guys who have stepped up for the pitching staff this year and is excited about the direction the team is headed in. UWG sits at 13-4 on the year and 3-0 in the GSC.
CSU at a Glance
Columbus State is 9-10 on the year and 6-3 in conference play. They struggled in the middle of February losing seven of eight games but got right back on track winning the next 6 out of 7 games. UWG Batters to Watch
The West Georgia lineup is starting to hit better as a team getting their team batting average up above .300. Leadoff man, #
Shaquille Jackson#, continues to put the bat on the ball and find his way on base. He has a .425 average through 40 at bats and is dangerous on the base path. The Wolves will look for senior #
Evan Hester# to lead them Wednesday. Hester is batting .356 on the year and also has 14 walks. Hester is at the heart of the lineup and will look to add to his 15 RBIs this season.
CSU Batters to Watch
The Wolves pitching staff may want to be cautious when facing Ryan Lewis. Lewis hit .588 (10-for-17) last week in four games. Lewis also leads the Peach Belt Conference with a .449 average and is tied for fifth with 20 RBIs. Another hitter UWG should keep an eye on is senior Cameron Scott. Scott is hitting .413 with three home runs and 28 RBIs. Last game the third baseman really got to the Wolves pitching staff going 5-for-7 as well as driving in six runs.
UWG Pitching
The Wolves will likely throw a few guys in Wednesday's game. Some guys to look for in the game are #
Cody Skinner# and #
Jonathon Black#. Skinner is 1-1 on the year with a 9 to 3 strikeout to walk ratio, but he has not pitched since February 20. The second guy to look for is
Jonathon Black. Black is 2-1 this season with 17 innings pitched.
CSU Pitching
The most likely starter the Wolves will see this Wednesday will be junior Zach Helewski. Helewski has a 4.15 ERA through 30 innings this year. Helewski also leads the team with 30 strike outs, averaging 8.9 strikeouts per game. Because it is a weekday game, the Cougars may share the ball on the mound and let Jordan Villhauer get some work in as well. Villhauer has a 3.00 ERA and is also racking up strikeouts with 16 through 15 innings.
