UWG Wins Seventh Straight

Carrollton, GA - UWG took down Columbus State this evening in their second meeting of the 2013 season, by a 7-5 count. This is the Wolves seventh straight win as they now prepare for conference opponent West Alabama this weekend.

UWG once again got off to an early start against the Cougars, scoring two runs in the first inning. The first run came when #Dylan Coleman# scored off of a wild pitch from the Cougar's starting pitcher Martin Castro. Later in the inning, sophomore #Dustin Brantley# singled through the left side scoring #Evan Hester#.

The Cougars answered the Wolves two runs in the third inning when J.D. Pullen hit a two run homerun over the right field wall to tie up the game.

However, the Wolves were not fazed by the big shot as they scored two runs in each of the bottom of the third and the fourth. In the bottom of the third both Brantley and #Tyler Landmon# picked up RBIs. Landmon came up with a big two out hit into right center with Brantley on third to take a 4-2 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth, #Dylan Coleman# and Hester both picked up RBIs to increase the Wolves lead to 6-2.
The Cougars showed more power in the top of the fifth when DH Brett Teschner hit a two run homerun to left field making the game 6-4.

The Wolves and Cougars both picked up one more run in the game making the final score 7-5.

Relief pitcher #Cody Skinner# came into the game in the sixth inning for Black and had major success. Skinner only allowed one hit in his first two innings. #Alex Allen# came into the game in the ninth inning after Skinner got into a bit of trouble surrendering a run. Allen picked up three quick outs as he came away with the save the Wolves got the win.
West Georgia's next baseball game is this weekend in Livingston, Alabama against West Alabama.

The Wolves now move to 14-4 on the year and 3-0 in conference.
