Carrollton, GA – The University of West Georgia baseball team turns their attention to their next weekday opponent in the Georgia Southwestern Canes. The game will be played at Cole Field this Wednesday, April 16 at 5:00 p.m. The Canes won the last matchup between the two teams on March 27 of this year of a final score of 17-3.
Georgia Southwestern at a Glance
Georgia Southwestern has been up and down all season thus far. The team is currently 14-25 on the year and is 5-17 in conference play. The Canes are coming off of a two game sweep of Young Harris after the third game was cancelled due to weather. In the two contests they outscored the Mountain Lions 13-6. The Canes look to improve their record on the road this year as they are only 4-16. Head Coach Bryan McLain is in his 17th season at Georgia Southwestern and his ninth season as head coach.
UWG at a Glance
UWG is coming off a fantastic weekend in which they swept their series against the #11 ranked Alabama-Huntsville. Their third game on Sunday was also cancelled due to harsh weather. Georgia Southwestern Batters to Watch
The Canes have one batter who stands above the rest on the team this year. Josh Sanders is having a great season playing in all 39 games this year and leading the team with a .369 batting average. Sanders also leads the team in hits with 62; 23 more than any other player on the team. The Canes also have some power in the lineup in Stephen Eldridge. Eldridge leads the team with three home runs and 28 RBIs.
UWG Batters to Watch
#
Blake McLemore# has been on fire this year hitting for a .355 batting average. McLemore also leads the team in runs scored and hits. Altogether the team is hitting .286 this year and has a .359 on base percentage. #
Shaquille Jackson# has helped contribute to raising the team's batting average hitting .333 on the year. Jackson is also a threat on the base path stealing 12 bases in 15 attempts thus far.
Georgia Southwestern Pitchers to Watch
The Wolves will likely see Earl Dupree on the mound in tomorrow's game. Dupree is only a freshman but he has started five games for the Canes and has 21 strikeouts through 36 innings. However, Dupree can lose control of his pitches on the mound as he has also walked 30 batters. Another pitcher the Wolves may see start or come out of the bullpen is Bray Bishop. Bishop has a 3.56 ERA and only allowed twelve earned runs through 30 innings of work.
UWG Pitchers to Watch
The Wolves will likely throw a few pitchers in the game against the Canes this Wednesday. One of those pitchers may be #
Randall Wright#. Wright has pitched well for UWG this season with an ERA just above five and a 3-4 record. He also has a solid 28-6 strikeout to walk ratio for the Wolves. The Wolves may also look to get lefty #
Jonathon Black# some work on the hill. Black has a 3-2 record and has struck out 20 batters 36.2 innings.
