McClure Notches First Win in Wolves VIctory

Carrollton, GA - The West Georgia Wolves ran their winning streak to three games Wednesday afternoon at Cole Field, besting Georgia Southwestern 8-7 in a lead up game to top-ranked Delta State this weekend.

West Georgia Head Coach Skip Fite went with #Seth McClure# to start the game on the mound for the team. McClure pitched his third-straight solid game and earned his first victory of the season. The senior pitched five innings, striking out four batters and not allowing a single hit. The only blemish in the game for him came in the third inning when he had a bad throw to first base, allowing a runner to come into score.

The Wolves answered the Canes back in the bottom of the fourth when #Evan Hester# tied the ball game up with a deep sacrifice fly out with bases loaded that scored #Shaquille Jackson#. #TJ Eifert# came up after him and hit a shot to the center field wall that scored two runs, giving UWG a 3-1 lead.

The Wolves continued to hit the Hurricane's pitching in the bottom of the fifth inning adding two more runs to their lead. Both #Blake McLemore# and #TJ Eifert# picked up RBI singles making the Wolves lead 5-1.

Heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, the Wolves held a 5-3 lead, but Eifert was not done being a menace to the Cane's pitching staff. He gave the Wolves one more run when he doubled to right center scoring McLemore. A couple pitches later #Dylan Coleman# came to the plate hitting for a single and also picking up two RBIs and making the game 8-3.

However, Georgia Southwestern put a little bit of a scare into the Wolves in the top of the ninth inning. #Alex Allen# came into pitch for UWG and the Canes shook him up as they scored three runs off of three hits. Coach Fite decided to go to #Max Aeschlimann# for backup of Allen to try and shut the Canes down. The Canes did pick up two more hits and score one more run while  Aeschlimann was pitching, but Aeschlimann settled down and struck out the Canes' cleanup man to end the game.

Eifert was crucial to the Wolves victory this evening as he went 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs.

UWG baseball now improves their record to 23-18 on the year and remains 11-8 in conference. The Wolves have their toughest task of the season as they take on number one ranked Delta State on the road this weekend.
