Carrollton, GA - The University of West Georgia prepares to take on the Saints from North Georgia College & State. The game is set to start at 5:00PM on Wednesday, April 3 at Cole Field.
North Georgia at a Glance
This has not been the best year for the Saints as they currently sit at 10-21 on the year and are 3-12 in the Peach Belt Conference. The team is coming off of a three game losing streak at home against UNC Pembroke. Surprisingly, North Georgia has played a little better on the road (6-7) than at home (4-12) this season.
UWG at a Glance
The University of West Georgia baseball team is 8-6 in the Gulf South Conference and 19-14 overall. The Wolves have played excellent baseball at home this year with a 14-3 record. UWG is trying to get back to consistently winning games, but they have been suffering from an abundance of injuries this season. Head Coach
Skip Fite will look to pick up the win tomorrow against the Saints for some positive momentum heading into the weekend series against West Florida.
North Georgia Batters to Watch
The Saints are hitting .264 as a team through 31 games this year. The only regular that is hitting over .300 this year for North Georgia is freshman Jake McCurry. McCurry leads the team with eight doubles and two triples this year. He also leads the team with nine stolen bases. Sophomore Tremayne Toorie has also had a decent season for the Saints hitting .292 on the year. He is also leading the team in home runs with four and has the most RBI with 23.
UWG Batters to Watch
The West Georgia Wolves team batting average is down from the beginning of the year at .284, but it is still atop of North Georgia's batting average. Center fielder #
Shaquille Jackson# continues to play great baseball. Jackson is hitting above .350 this season and is tied with #
Blake McLemore# for the most stolen bases on the team with eleven. McLemore has continued to display excellent hitting at the plate with a .333 batting average and he has also gotten around the bases 26 times. McLemore is also a nightmare for opposing pitchers to strike out as he has just five on the year to go along with 18 walks.
North Georgia Pitchers to Watch
The Wolves may match up against sophomore lefty Taylor Keinat. Keinat has the most innings pitched this year for the Saints with 48.1 and has a 37 to 16 strikeout to walk ratio. He has struggled at times this year having a 1-5 record and a cumulative 6.52 ERA on the season. West Georgia may also see Christian Turnipseed on the mound. Turnipseed has been a worthy reliever for the Saints with a 4.07 ERA through 24 innings. Furthermore, he has a 3-1 record with an average of eight strikeouts a game.
UWG Pitchers to Watch
The Wolves will likely go whole-staff in this weekday game due to the injuries the team has suffered to the starting rotation. One likely pitcher on the mound the Saints will see is lefty #
Jonathon Black#. Black has a 6.47 ERA on the year with 3-2 record. Another guy with a 3-2 record likely to pitch in Wednesday night's game is #
Randall Wright#. Wright has a 4.68 ERA this year and has a 21 to 4 strikeout to walk ratio.
Previous Matchup
Last year the two teams split the series against one another. The Wolves lost the first game of the series at home in a close game of 3-2. The Wolves had a runner 90 feet away in the ninth inning, but they came up just short. The second game went to UWG in a final score of 7-5. The Wolves were able to tack on three runs late in the game to solidify the win. #
Evan Hester# has a big game two against North Georgia going 2-for-3 and also picking up three RBIs.
