Wolves Play Host to Georgia College

Carrollton, GA - The University of West Georgia seeks out retribution tomorrow afternoon at Cole Field against Georgia College at 3:00PM.

West Georgia at a Glance
UWG heads into Thursdays weekday matchup with an overall record of 5-9 and 2-4 in the Gulf South Conference. The Wolves are coming off a conference weekend against the University of West Alabama, a series that was played in Livingston, AL, in which the Tigers won 2 out of 3 games. In the series, the Wolves were only outscored 7-5, as pitching was a dominant factor in the matchup. Jamie Sexton's 12-inning performance on Sunday was the third-most in GSC history, tying with Gary Cottingham of West Alabama in 1974 and Keef Pettis of West Alabama in 1979.

Georgia College at a Glance
The Bobcats are 7-3 heading to Carrollton, GA to take on the Wolves. Georgia College has only played three games since beating the Wolves on February 18, winning 2-of-3 games against Flagler College out of St. Augustine, Florida. This is Georgia College's first road game of the season, as all of their ten games have been played in Milledgeville during the 2014 season.

West Georgia Offense
Shaquille Jackson has really got things going for the Wolves at the leadoff spot in the batting order hitting .415 in nine starts. Jackson will look to keep his seven game hitting streak alive against in the game against Georgia College. Jackson also had a 4-hit game against Georgia Regents on February 7, and is the only player on the team to do so. JoJo Underwood has also been a very consistent batter for the Wolves, hitting .347 on the season. Underwood has mostly bounced back and forth from the third and fourth spot in the lineup, but has been consistent at the plate.

Georgia College Offense
Taylor Hinshaw leads the Bobcat's offense in practically every category this year. He's leading the team with a .452 batting average, 5 doubles, and 12 RBI. He's greatly contributed to getting the Bobcat's overall team average over the .300 mark. Last time these two teams played, Hinshaw went 3-for-4 with two doubles, 2 RBI, and 2 runs scored. Daniel Bick is another player UWG should keep an eye on. Bick is a .379 hitter, and also an ability to watch bad pitches as he leads the team with 10 walks.

West Georgia Pitching
The Wolves starting pitching staff has picked it up as of late, with all of their three weekend starters ERAs under the 4.00 mark. For this Thursday's game, the Wolves will likely lean on Ashley Claxton or Cole Janousek. Janosuek pitched in his first start of the season in the 7-inning game against West Alabama this past weekend. In the game, Janousek went five innings and only allowed two runs off of five hits. Claxton actually started the last game against Georgia College, although had a short outing only pitching two innings and allowing three runs.

Georgia College Pitching
The Bobcat's only game that hasn't been a part of a series was against West Georgia. Like Claxton, Josh Pape got his first start of the year in the game. Pape also had a short outing, pitching 3.2 innings allowing seven runs off seven hits, as both teams were scoring runs early in the game. Jordan Brooks then came in for relief for two innings and also picking up the win. Brooks could be a potential starter in the game as he has appeared in four games and started in one of them.

Previous Matchup
These two teams just met a little over a week ago in Milledgeville, GA for a single, middle of the week game. The Wolves rallied from an early deficit, but fell just short, 10-9 to the Bobcats. Underwood led the way for the Wolves with three hits and three RBI. Mike McGraw hurt UWG going 3-for-4 from the plate and adding a two run homerun in the fourth inning.
