Game Notes
Carrollton, GA - The University of West Georgia travels to Cleveland, TN to take on the new Gulf South Conference team, Lee University. This is the first time the two teams have ever met, andt is a three-game series with a doubleheader on Saturday at 3:00 and 6:00 pm. The series finale will be played on Sunday at 3:00 pm.
UWG at a Glance
The University of West Georgia heads into this weekend's series with a record of 5-10 on the season and 2-4 in conference. At a 2-5 away record in 2014, the Wolves are looking to get back to a .500 record on the road this season.
Lee at a Glance
The Flames have had early success in the 2014 campaign, with a 9-4 overall record and 3-3 in the GSC. Lee has been perfect at Olympic Field in Cleveland, TN as they are 6-0. The Flames are coming off a three-game series against the #23 ranked Alabama-Huntsville, in which they lost 2-of-3 games on the road.
UWG Pitching
The Wolves starting pitching staff has picked it up as of late, with all of their three weekend starters ERAs under the 4.00 mark.
Cody Skinner will likely pitch the first game of the doubleheader on Saturday. Skinner is 2-2 and has a 2.87 ERA thus far. He has already pitched two complete games for the Wolves in just four starts, and opponents are only hitting .230 against him.
Jamie Sexton will probably wrap-up the series pitching Sunday evening. Sexton has got his ERA down to the 3.60, and is also 2-1 on the year. Sexton has pitched the most innings for the Wolves at 35, and also leads the team with 26 strikeouts.
Lee Pitching
Lee University has had a stud on the mound this year in Nikolay Uherek. Uherek is 3-0 in four starts for the Flames, and has yet to give up a run through 22 innings. He shows excellent command on the mound with 30 strikeouts to just 3 walks. Dustin Lawson is also having early some early success with a 2-1 record and a 2.20 ERA. Opponents are only hitting .170 against him.
UWG Offense
West Georgia is only hitting .254 as a team this year on offense, but they do have a couple standouts.
Shaquille Jackson leads the team with a .415 batting average, and he currently has an eight game hitting streak.
JoJo Underwood is another player having a good season at the plate. Underwood has a .347 batting average, and he and Jackson both lead the team with 17 hits. Underwood has also been hitting for some power as well, as he leads the team with three doubles and 10 RBI.
Lee Offense
The Flame's offense has also gotten off to a bit of a slow start hitting .256 as a team. Like the Wolves, they have two standout athletes who have separated from the pack. Josh Silver leads the team with a .367 batting average and also with a .418 on base percentage. Derrick Pitts is also playing well hitting .319 on the year. However, Pitts biggest downfall is lack of discipline at the plate, as he leads his team with eleven strikeouts.
