Carrollton, GA - After a successful weekend in which West Georgia beat Valdosta State in 2-of-3 games at Cole Field, the Wolves get right back in to action tomorrow against the University of North Georgia. The game will begin at 5:00 p.m. at Bob Stein Stadium.
Wolves at a Glance
UWG travels to Dahlonega, GA with an overall record of 15-24 and a 9-14 Gulf South Conference record. West Georgia's bats are coming around as the team inches closer to the GSC tournament. This past weekend against Valdosta State, the Wolves hit .301 as a team and had six players who hit .300 or better. Against solid pitching, UWG hit six doubles, two triples, and scored 18 runs in the series.
Sumner McWhorter was the real standout this past weekend, batting .500 and driving in four runs. McWhorter also had a slugging percentage of .875, walked three times, and was 2-for-2 on stolen bases.
Casey James also had a very successful weekend, not only did he go 3-for-5 with runners in scoring position, he also had the game winning hit in game one of the Saturday doubleheader, and a go-ahead two run triple in the sixth inning to lead the Wolves to victory.
The Wolves also saw some excellent work out of their bullpen in the series against VSU.
Taylor Craft appeared in game one of Saturday's doubleheader and was credited with the win as he pitched two innings and allowed just one run.
Chris Burdette also looked eccentric in game two on Saturday, pitching the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh innings allowing no runs and just one hit.
Nighthawks at a Glance
Although UNG was outscored 34-23 in their last series, they were able to win 2-of-3 against Young Harris College. Most of the run difference came in game two of the series, as Young Harris scored 22 runs in the game. With both of the wins, the Nighthawks move to an overall record of 18-21 and are 6-15 in the Peach Belt Conference. North Georgia has played well at home this year, as they have a 16-11 record and hit nearly .40 points higher at the plate.
Tremayne Toorie is tied with the Nighthawk's catcher, Eason Spivey, for the highest batting average of .331 on the team. Toorie leads the team with 54 hits and also leads the team doubles with 18. Spivey has been the team's power hitter, leading the team with a .531 slugging percentage and with five homeruns.
Previous Matchup
The Wolves and Nighthawks played earlier this season at Cole Field in a tight game until the end. Heading in to the sixth inning, the game was all tied at 5-5, but a one run sixth and a four run seventh carried UNG to a 10-5 victory.
