Carrollton, GA - The West Georgia Wolves soccer team has a large task ahead as they welcome the Mississippi College Choctaws to Carrollton on Friday for Gulf South Conference soccer action at 4:00 p.m. from University Stadium.
The Choctaws enter the contest with a record of 6-1-1, presenting an opportunity for West Georgia to make some noise in the GSC Standings. MC is coming off of their first loss of the season, a 3-2 decision at the hands of West Alabama. UWG won their last game, on the road at Shorter, 1-0.
In the win at Shorter,
Kelly Geary's 16th minute goal proved to be the difference maker as
Katie Miklausich made four saves, preserving a UWG shutout. Geary is tied for the team lead in goals with three on the season. Both
Cortney Emmert and
Susana Abundiz also have three goals this season.
Friday afternoon's matchup marks the second meeting in the all-time series between UWG and MC, and is the first ever meeting in Carrollton. The Choctaws won the only previous matchup, a 6-3 game in Clinton, Miss. last season.
The Wolves are currently 5-4 on the year and are looking for their sixth win on Friday. The Wolves have not won six games since 2012 which also marks the last time UWG made the GSC Tournament.
