Lewis nets two goals as Wolves draw with Choctaws

Box Score
Carrollton, GA - Not even 110 minutes would be enough to decide a winner on Friday night as the West Georgia Wolves soccer team played the Mississippi College Choctaws to a 2-2 draw at University Field in Gulf South Conference soccer action.

Both teams had plenty of chances to win the game, but in the end, a pair of goals from freshman Alexis Lewis helped the Wolves gain a point in the conference standings with the draw over the Choctaws.

Mississippi College had the first real opportunity to get an early lead when the Choctaws were awarded a penalty kick in the 12th minute. Sophomore keeper made a tremendous save, denying the Choctaws chance and keeping the game scoreless.

West Georgia only managed two shots in the first half, but strong defense and four saves from Miklausich kept the Wolves in the game.

In the 57th minute, West Georgia would get a break as Alexis Lewis broke through after a pass from Cortney Emmert and netted the first goal of the game by either team, and gave West Georgia a 1-0 lead.

Six minutes later, Mississippi College's Samantha Carson would score a goal and tie things up at one apiece.

Mississippi College was awarded another penalty kick in the 74th minute, giving the Choctaws their first lead of the contest.

Lewis would net the game-tying goal just three minutes later on a long clearance by the UWG defense. The goal was the second goal of the game for Lewis and the third of the season and her career.

Neither team would break the tie in regulation, sending the Wolves to their first overtime game of the seaso.

In the first overtime, both teams managed two shots apiece, but neither team could break through.

The Wolves would get three shots off in the final overtime period, but could not convert.

Despite allowing the two goals, Miklausich was critical in preserving the draw for the Wolves. The sophomore made nine saves in the game, tying a career high which she previously set against Spring Hill in 2014.

The draw is the first of the season for West Georgia and gives them a record of 5-4-1 and 3-2-1 in Gulf South Conference play.

West Georgia is back in action on the road on Sunday, taking on North Alabama at 2:00 p.m. in Florence, Ala.
