Box Score Carrollton, GA - The West Georgia Wolves lost their third Gulf South Conference match of the season on Sunday afternoon in Florence, Ala., falling to the North Alabama Lions by a 2-0 count in a battle of teams with three victories.
The Wolves (5-5-1, 3-3-1) picked up one point in the GSC standings on the weekend, and heading into the first full week of October, head coach Chris Davidovicz and his squad have 10 points. West Georgia came into the day as one of three teams in the GSC with 10 points in conference play, with UNA (8-1-1, 4-1) joining that group with the win over teh Wolves on Sunday.
The Lions opened the scoring early, as Chloe Richards delivered on a goal in the second minute of the contest to give UNA a 1-0 lead. That would be the only scoring of the first half, as both teams had opportunities to score, but neither could take advantage of opportunities throughout the rest of the period. Heading into the locker room, the Lions held onto that 1-0 advantage.
In the second half, the Wolves threatened early with shots near the mouth of the goal, but none were on frame to force a save. Richards struck again in the 64th minute with her second goal of the match, and UWG could not manufacture any scoring, as the match ended with UNA on top of a 2-0 score in regulation.
West Georgia has two home matches coming up this week, as the Wolves take on Armstrong State at University Field on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m., followed by a match on Thursday with the Union Bulldogs in a return to GSC play.
