Carrollton, GA - The UWG Baseball team picked up their first road win of the season against the Stillman Tigers in Tuscaloosa on Tuesday. The Wolves won the game 11-4 behind starting pitcher
Josh Morgan and a great showing from the offense and bullpen.
It did not take long for the Wolves to score as they picked up an early lead when
Dalton Rogers singled to center field to drive in
Tyler Hutch. The Tigers answered in the bottom of the first with one run to tie the game and would take the lead in the second with another run. In the top of the third, UWG would score three runs behind a two RBI single by
Payton Mann. From that point on, the Wolves would take control of the game as they scored three more runs in both the fourth and fifth innings capping off the scoring in the eighth with a sac fly by
Drew Eady.
Morgan went three innings on the game and allowed six hits and three earned runs while striking out two batters. To start the fourth inning,
A.J. Sunstrom came on in relief for Morgan and he pitched three innings only giving up one run to hold the Tiger offense to four runs.
Colton Duttweiler and
Tyler Gunnin finished the game for the Wolves combining for three innings pitched and striking out five batters while giving up no runs.
At the plate, UWG had one of their best games of the season tallying 17 hits to go along with four walks. Hutch continued is great season scoring three more runs and adding three hits. Leading the offense today was Rogers who had a team high three RBI and three hits while
Garrett Hayes and
Payton Mann each picked up two RBI and Hayes now has 11 RBI on the season to lead the team. Hutch, McWhorter, Brown and Eady each had one RBI against the Tigers.
The Wolves will continue their road trip as they will have their first conference game on Saturday, February 14th, with a double header against Alabama-Huntsville.
