Carrollton, GA - The UWG Baseball team lost their first road game of the year against the UAH Chargers on Friday by the score of 5-2. Starting pitcher
Matthew Norton pitched well but it was not enough as the Wolves were unable to overcome three home runs hit by the Chargers.
The Chargers jumped out to an early lead with two solo home runs hit by Burton and Brock. In the top of the sixth, the Wolves would tie the game with a two run hit by
Garrett Hayes that scored
Tyler Hutch and
Sumner McWhorter. The tie did not last long as the Chargers hit another homerun in the bottom of the sixth to take a 3-2 lead. After Norton struggled in the seventh, coach
Skip Fite turned to
Chris Burdette who gave a single that scored two more runs for UAH and made the lead 5-3 which would hold to be the final score.,
Norton pitched 6.2 innings giving up three earned runs, which all came on home runs, and six hits while striking out three batters. Relief pitcher Burdette went 1.1 innings and only gave up one hit but it was the single that scored two for the Chargers. The Wolves defense committed two huge errors that lead to two unearned runs which would lume large for the Wolves.,
The Wolves struggled to figure out the UAH pitchers as they only scored two runs on the day. Hayes had the big hit that scored the two runs for UWG but
Tyler Hutch and
Drew Eady also had good games each collecting two hits for the game. No one else had more than one hit for the Wolves.,
