UWG Returns Home to Face Conference Rival West Ala

Carrollton, GA - The UWG Baseball team returns home to Cole Field as they face West Alabama in the Wolves fourth conference game of the season. Due to rain expected in Carrollton this weekend, the first game of the series will be Friday, February 20th at 2pm while the other two games will be Saturday, February 21st starting at 12pm.

In the series last weekend against UAH, the Wolves picked up their first Conference win of the season in a 17-5 victory over the Chargers. Senior pitcher Jamie Sexton pitched a complete game and picked up the win as the team exploded offensively scoring the most runs in a game so far this season. The other two games of the series were close games but the Chargers edged out UWG to win two out of three games.

When the Wolves come home to host UWA, they will bring an impressive offense that has been very patient at the plate so far this season. UWG already has 45 walks in 10 games and their opponents have only had 25 free passes. Leading the team in walks is Dalton Rogers with seven and Tyler Hutch with six. Also, the Wolves have a great on base percentage at .425 as a team while their opponents have a .294 on base percentage. Hutch leads the team with a .652 on base percentage and Payton Mann is second on the team with a .475 on base percentage.

Sexton has started out the season very strong already picking up three wins for the season. In his last start, he went the full game only giving up one earned run and striking out seven batters. For the season, he has been the Wolves most consistent pitcher and has gone 20 innings only allowing two earned runs so far. In the three games that Sexton has started, the team has scored 30 runs and have outscored their opponent by 22 runs.

West Alabama at a Glance
The Tigers have started the season with an 8-4 record going 7-1 at home while only going 1-3 on the road. They are coming off two victories against Delta State as they started conference play last weekend. Leading the team in hitting is Jake Bush who already has three home runs and is hitting a team high .389. The top pitcher for the Tigers is Fernando Gonzalez as he has gone 19 innings and picked up one win for the season.
