Carrollton, GA - The West Georgia Wolves will return to Cole Field after playing the last eight games on the road. The series against West Florida will begin on Friday, March 20th with one game starting at 6:00pm and the final two game will be played on a Saturday doubleheader starting at 12:00pm.
Coming into the weekend series against West Florida, the UWG Baseball team has won ten straight Conference games to rise to second place in the GSC. The winning streak started on February 21st, with a 5-2 victory over West Alabama and has continued through the middle of March and on into this weekend. Leading the Conference is Alabama Huntsville (16-2-1, 10-2-1) who is set to host Delta State this weekend in a three game series. The Wolves have 18 Conference games left this season and have a chance to overtake Alabama Huntsville for the top spot in the GSC with a good showing this weekend.
Two players to watch this weekend against West Florida are outfielders
Garrett Hayes and
Tyler Hutch. The duo have started every game for Head Coach
Skip Fite and have combined for 64 hits, 57 runs scored, and 39 RBI. Both players are coming off a great series this past weekend against Shorter as Hayes picked up two homeruns and four hits, and Hutch had eight RBI from the leadoff spot in the lineup. The two players will be pivotal for the UWG offense this weekend hitting from the top half of the lineup, and one of the keys to the game will be how the West Florida pitchers approach the two at the plate.
A big key for UWG when they host West Florida this weekend will be scoring more than two runs. When the Wolves score more than two runs in a game this season, they are 17-3 as opposed to 0-4 when they fail to score more than two runs. When UWG scores three to five runs during a game, they are 7-3, and when they score over six, they are 10-0.
