Carrollton, GA - The West Georgia Wolves will host the North Georgia Nighthawks in a midweek matchup between the Gulf South Conference and the Peach Belt Conference at Cole Field on March 31st at 5:00pm.
For the second time in a week, the UWG baseball team (21-10,14-7) will play against North Georgia as they will host the Nighthawks at Cole Field. When the two teams met in Dahlonega on March 24th, it was a close game which UWG won 7-6 after scoring the go-ahead run in the eighth inning.
Josh Morgan started the game and went four innings, giving up one earned run on three hits. Both
Tyler Hutch and
Artemis Kadkhodaian hit their first homerun of the season in the game and they both had three RBI each to lead the team to the victory.
Garrett Hayes also had a good day at the plate against the Nighthawks with two hits and one RBI. The Wolves had 10 hits on the day but left 13 men on base in what was a one run game.
Garrett Hayes has had a fantastic season for the Wolves and he is the team's most consistent threat on offense. Hayes is batting .385 with three homeruns and 33 RBI hitting from the cleanup spot in the lineup. Going into the game against North Georgia, Hayes is tied for third place in the Gulf South Conference in RBI. In the last four games, Hayes has seven runs batted in and he has been the main run producer for the Wolves during his recent hot streak.
The Wolves closer,
Tyler Gunnin, has been one of the best relievers in the GSC this season. Gunnin leads the Conference in saves with eight, while the next person on the list has six saves. In 12.2 of work, Gunnin has 15 strikeouts and he has only allowed seven hits. Batters are only hitting .159 against Gunnin and he has a 0.71 ERA which is best on the team. In the last four games, Gunnin has had two saves preserving a one run lead and he has yet to blow a save this season.
North Georgia At a Glance
The Nighthawks (20-9,14-4) are coming off a series win against Armstrong State University and they currently lead the Peach Belt Conference. The leading hitters on the team are Joey Cecere and Andrew Gordon who are hitting .357 and .274 respectively. Gordon has hit nine home runs on the season and he 20 RBI. The top pitcher on the team is Jacob Beauchamp who is 5-1 with a 3.02 ERA in 47.2 innings of work.
