Carrollton, GA - The West Georgia Wolves will host North Alabama this weekend in a three game series at Cole Field starting with a doubleheader on Friday, April 3rd at 2:00pm, and the final game of the series on Saturday at 1:00pm.
After bad weather in the Carrollton area forced the cancellation of the game against North Georgia on Tuesday, the Wolves will return to action this weekend at home against North Alabama in what will be a very important series in terms of the Conference standings. Currently, North Alabama sits one spot behind UWG with a winning percentage of .588 (10-7) while the Wolves have a winning percentage of .667 (14-7) against GSC opponents. Going into the weekend, Alabama Huntsville and West Alabama still sit first and second in the conference followed by West Georgia and North Alabama.
Going into the series against North Alabama, one thing to watch at the plate is three UWG players have hitting streaks going into the weekend.
Garrett Hayes,
Artemis Kadkhodaian, and
Dalton Rogers have all hit safely in the last five games. In addition to the five game hitting streak,
Garrett Hayes also has an 11 game streak of reaching base. So far this season, the longest hitting streak belongs to
Tyler Hutch at 10 games. Hutch had is hitting streak snapped this past weekend in the Delta State series when he went 0-4 in game two.
The leadoff man,
Tyler Hutch, has 13 multiple hit games this season leading the team in that category. He has 9 two hit games and 4 three hit games so far.
Dalton Rogers is second on the team in multiple hit games with 11 and
Garrett Hayes is third on the team with 10. Hayes is one of three players with four multiple hit games as
Sumner McWhorter and
Payton Mann are the other two.
North Alabama at a Glance
The Lions (21-8, 10-7) are coming off a tough weekend after getting swept by Alabama Huntsville in a three game series which broke their eight game winning streak going into the series. The leading hitters on the team are Dylan Boston and Dylan Calhoun who are hitting .295 and .384 respectfully. Boston leads the team with three home runs and 33 runs batted in while Calhoun has the highest batting average on the team. The top pitcher for the Lions is Brantley Claunch who is 4-2 with a 2.79 ERA in 58.0 innings of work.
