UWG Faces Georgia Southwestern in Midweek Matchup

Carrollton, GA - With the end of the season coming to a close, the UWG Baseball team will host Georgia Southwestern in what will be one of the last chances to see the Wolves play at Cole Field during the 2015 season. The game is on Wednesday, April 22, with first pitch scheduled for 5:00pm.

The Wolves and the Hurricanes met earlier this season in Americus as Georgia Southwestern edged out the Wolves in a 5-4 ballgame. Josh Morgan started the game for UWG and he went four innings and allowed three earned runs on four hits. When Morgan departed the game, the bullpen was unable to keep the Hurricanes from adding two more runs in what would be the difference in the game. At the plate, Tyler Hutch led the team with three hits and Dalton Rogers had a team high two RBI.

After sweeping Christian Brothers in a doubleheader this past weekend, the Wolves have now jumped ahead of West Florida for third place in the Gulf South Conference standings. With three more Conference games against Union, UWG has a chance to move past Alabama Huntsville who plays GSC leader West Alabama this weekend.

In the last game against Christian Brothers, UWG closer Tyler Gunnin notched his tenth save of the season. This is the first time that a UWG player has recorded double digit saves on the season. Earlier this season, Gunnin broke the UWG record for saves in a season as he passed Max Aeschlimann who had eight saves in the 2013 season. Also, Gunnin is one save away from tying Lynn Ayers for the most saves in a career with 11. On the season, Gunnin has 21 strikeouts in 18 innings pitched and batters are only hitting .190 off the closer.

Coming into the game against Georgia Southwestern, Artemis Kadkhodaian has been one of the team's most reliable hitters. Kadkhodaian is coming off a great series against Christian Brothers in which he had five hits and five RBI in the two games. He also launched his second homerun of the season and he scored five runs for the team. Due to his great play, Kadkhodaian earned GSC player of the week honors and he will be one player to watch against Georgia Southwestern.
