UWG Soccer falls in Saturday Scrimmage

Carrollton, GA - In the final scrimmage for UWG soccer before the regular season starts, the Wolves fought hard for 90 minutes, but in the end fell by a final count of 2-1 to Montevallo at University Field on Saturday afternoon.

The scoring began with a Montevallo goal in the 13th minute of the contest, giving the Falcons the early 1-0 lead. The score would stay that way until late in the second half when a Montevallo penalty kick, put the Falcons up 2-0 in the 66th minute.

Just seconds later, Kara Barber would draw a UWG penalty kick as she made a run into the box in the 67th minute. Freshman Katie Mitchell converted the penalty kick, putting the Wolves down by just one goal.

The Wolves had 16 shots on the day, and put seven of them on goal, but could not get by the Montevallo keepers. The Falcons had eight shots on the day, with UWG goal keeper Katie Miklausich making four saves in the contest.

West Georgia begins their regular season on Thursday, September 3 as the Wolves travel to Franklin Springs, GA to take on the Emmanuel Lions in a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
