Carrollton, GA - On Friday, the UWG soccer team will try to win their third straight game as the Wolves take on the Delta State Statesmen on the road in Cleveland, Tenn. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. from Delta Field.
The Wolves have won two straight dating back to last Friday when they knocked off Southern Wesleyan 4-0, and followed that with a 7-1 win over Spring Hill on Sunday afternoon. A win on Friday night, would give UWG their third straight win, a feat that has not been seen at West Georgia since 2007.
West Georgia has fared well against the Statesmen in the program's 12 year history. The Wolves are 10-1 all-time against Delta State, including each of the last seven meetings. UWG claimed a 2-1 win over DSU in last season's meeting in Carrollton.
This season, the Wolves have outscored their opponents 13-6, and are averaging 2.6 goals per game. Eleven Wolves have found the back of the net thus far this season, with junior
Susana Abundiz and sophomore
Kelly Geary leading with two goals apiece. Four Wolves scored their first career goal against Spring Hill on Sunday, including
Kara Barber,
Alexis Lewis,
Katie Mitchell, and
Alisha Greis.
The Statesmen have only scored two goals all season and are currently 1-2-1 on the year. DSU is 0-1 in Gulf South Conference play following a 4-1 loss to Mississippi College. Delta State's lone win on the year was a 1-0 home victory over Montevallo.
