Memphis, TN - The University of West Georgia Women's Soccer team continued their weekend on the road, traveling to Memphis, Tenn., and falling 3-2 to Christian Brothers in a Sunday afternoon contest.
An amazing effort from
Cortney Emmert almost brought the Wolves back from a big halftime deficit, but in the end it was not enough for West Georgia and head coach Chris Davidovicz.
The Wolves began the match struggling to get the ball into their attacking third. At the 14 minute mark, the Bucs were able to get a header off a cross into the back of the net putting CBU ahead 1-0. Shortly after, another goal by forward Melissa Tammi allowed CBU to take a 2-0 lead with 23 minutes to play in the first period.
Haley Ryan was substituted in for the Wolves at keeper hoping to keep the Bucs to two goals. Unfortunately, it was not enough as another header into the back of the net put CBU at a 3-0 lead only nine minutes before the half, sending the Wolves into halftime trailing 3-0.
The Wolves came out into the second half on the hunt for another conference win, putting 5 shots up, with 4 on goal. It was late in the half when
Cortney Emmert began to take over for UWG. Emmert drilled a ball into the net at the 80 minute mark, making the score 3-1 in favor of the Bucs. Emmert added another goal in the 89th minute in a last second effort to bring the Wolves all the way back.
Unfortunately, despite the two late goals, the Wolves could not make a comeback, falling to the CBU Bucs 3-2 in their third conference game of the season. The two goals from Emmert giver her three on the season, tying for the team lead with
Susana Abundiz.
West Georgia is now 4-3 overall and 2-1 in Gulf South Conference play. The Wolves continue their season at home Friday, September 25 against Lee University with kickoff scheduled for
