Carrollton, GA - It was a heartbreaking loss on Friday night for the UWG soccer team, but now they must shift their focus to Sunday and their road showdown with Shorter in Rome at 1:00 p.m.
Sunday marks the seventh meeting between the two in-state rivals separated by just 55 miles. West Georgia holds a slight advantage in the all-time series, leading 3-2-1, dating back to the first meeting in the 2004 inaugural season for the Wolves. Shorter, however, has won the last two matchups including last season's 1-0 win in Carrollton.
Senior
Cortney Emmert and junior
Susana Abundiz currently lead West Georgia in the scoring department with three goals apiece. Emmert leads in total points with eight thanks to her two assists this season.
Shorter and West Georgia have only one common opponent at this point of the season, that being Emmanuel, who the Wolves beat 1-0 in the season-opener on the road on September 4. Emmanuel tangled with Shorter just four days later, with the Hawks winning that contest 4-0.
West Georgia will be looking to knock off Shorter and notch their third Gulf South Conference victory of the season. The Wolves are currently 4-4 overall with a 2-2 mark in GSC play.
Kickoff in Rome is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. from Ben Brady Field on Shorter's campus. Fans can follow the action from the live stats link above or by tuning into @UWGAthletics on Twitter.
