Morrow, GA - The University of West Georgia Women's Soccer team traveled to Morrow, Ga. Tuesday night to take on the Clayton State Lakers in their third game of the season, falling 2-1 to CSU on the road.
The Wolves looked good to begin the game as they were moving the ball well, possessing through the middle, but only nine minutes into the half, the Lakers took the lead with a rocket from 15 yards outside the 18-yard box.
Kelly Geary took a great shot shortly after, hitting the post and bouncing wide after a clever sequence into the box.
West Georiga fought off 13 first half shots from the Lakers, but only trailed by the one goal at the break.
Again, only nine minutes into the final half a through-ball by Clayton State behind the back line was finished for their second goal of the match, but the Wolves were not out of the match..In the 63rd minute, senior
Ashlynn Deese buried the ball in the net off an assist from
Cari Powell to bring West Georgia back within a goal.
The Wolves continued to press, taking three more shots on goal, but it would not be enough as the Wolves fall to 1-2 on the season.
UWG's next action comes on Friday night as the Wolves travel to Central, SC to take on the Southern Wesleyan Warriors in a 6:00 p.m. match.
