Carrollton, GA - The West Georgia Wolves baseball team moved to 5-0 on the year with a 9-4 win over Stillman College on Saturday afternoon. The Wolves used 12 hits on the day to push the nine runs across the plate.
How It Happened
The first five innings of the game was a pitching duel as both pitchers held the other team scoreless. UWG starter
Colton Duttweiler threw the first five innings, giving up four hits and no runs in the process. He tallied seven strikeouts in the game on the way to his first win of the season.
The scoring began in the bottom of the fifth when a
Caleb Lopes single turned into a run on an error by the Tigers.
Garrett Hayes then singled scoring
Artemis Kadkhodaian.
Caleb Lopes also scored on the play on another error by the Tigers.
The Tigers responded in the top of the sixth as they scored two runs off of
Matthew Norton. UWG responded in a big way in the bottom of the inning, beginning with
Tyler Hutch's third homerun of the year.
Artemis Kadkhodaian was then hit by a pitch, stole second, and advanced to third on a passed ball, eventualy scoring on a single from
Caleb Lopes. A
Garrett Hayes walk put two on before
Dalton Rogers ripped a triple down the first base line. Both Lopes and Hayes scored, and then a thirs Stillman error would allow Rogers to score on the same play.
The Wolves added an insurance run in the seventh when
Artemis Kadkhodaian drove in
Chase Waters on a single, but was thrown out trying to stretch it to a double. The Tigers then scored two more runs in the eighth to make it a 9-4 game.
That would be the end of the scoring as both teams would go down in order in their final at-bat.
Ethan Hunter struck out two batters in the ninth inning to shut the door on the win.
Caleb Lopes ended the day going 2-4 with an RBI. He still is hitting above .500 on the season.
Tyler Hutch had two hits in five at-bats, including his third home run of the year.
