Carrollton, GA - The West Georgia Wolves baseball team improved to 6-0 in the 2016 season as UWG took down Stillman 8-1 on Sunday Afternoon.
Brandon Goldsmith picked up his second win of the season, pitching six innings giving up two hits and one run. Goldsmith also tallied six strikeouts on the day.
How It Happened
Stillman scored first in the game with a homerun by Josh McDaniel in the top of the second inning. That would end the scoring for the Tigers on the day. The Wolves responded in the bottom half of the second with two runs.
Drew Eady drove in the first run on a sacrifice fly, plating
Cade Marlowe in the process. Later in the inning
Chase Waters stole third and scored on a Stillman wild pitch.
The Wolves next scoring opportunity would come in the bottom of the fourth.
Dalton Rogers and
Cade Marlowe started the inning with back-to-back singles. The Wolves would then go to some small ball as
Chase Waters would bunt to move Rogers and Marlowe to second and third, respectively.
Drew Eady capitalized by knocking in both runners on a triple to right filed, extending the UWG lead to 4-1.
Tyler Hutch would deliver the big hit in the inning as he hit a two-run homerun to left field with two outs.
Payton Mann and
Tyler Hutch both walked to start the sixth inning for the Wolves. Both runners advanced on a long fly ball to centerfield by
Artemis Kadkhodaian. Shortstop
Caleb Lopes did the rest as he drove in both runners and a line drive double to left-centerfield. That would put the Wolves up 8-1, ending the scoring on the day.
Tyler Hutch led the Wolves on the day going 2-4 with two RBIs and his team-leading fourth homerun.
Artemis Kadkhodaian went 3-5 with two doubles.
Drew Eady led the Wolves with three RBIs.
Ryan Sapp threw one inning, giving up two hits and no runs.
Mitchell Mannino and
Tyler Gunnin combined for a hitless eighth and ninth inning for the Wolves, combining for three strikeouts.
