Carrollton, GA - The West Georgia Wolves baseball team is off to a fast start this year, sitting at 7-0 early in the season. The Wolves will take that undefeated record to Florence, Ala. to battle the North Alabama Lions in each team's first conference series of 2016. West Georgia is curremtly the only undefeated team left in the Gulf South Conference and lead the GSC in team batting average and team ERA.
Wolves Last Game
UWG is coming off of an impressive win over the Young Harris Mountain Lions on Tuesday. The Wolves downed the Mountain Lions 10-1, racking up thirteen hits in the process, wile holding Young Harris to five hits.
Centerfielder
Drew Eady continued to be the go to RBI man for the Wolves as he knocked in three runs on the day, including a double in the second inning that plated seniors
Garrett Hayes and
Dalton Rogers. Catcher
Payton Mann followed Eady with a double of his own, plating Eady in the process. Senior
Tyler Hutch followed with West Georgia's third consecutive double, driving in Mann and moving the score to 3-1.
The Wolves scored two more runs in the third inning with a
Garrett Hayes sacrifice fly and
Payton Mann getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. UWG really pulled away in the bottom of the fourth when
Caleb Lopes for the first time this year, scoring second baseman
Artemis Kadkhodaian in the process. Lopes has been one of the best hitters in the GSC this season with a .536 BA and five doubles. West Georgia scored one more that inning with a bases loaded walk with
Drew Eady at the plate. The final run was a sacrifice fly by
Dalton Rogers in the fifth.
Freshman
Cade Marlowe was 3-3 in the game and is currently 8-10 on the season.
Artemis Kadkhodaian finished the game 2-5, while
Caleb Lopes went 3-5 at the plate. T.J. Watson secured his first win of the season, pitching five innings, giving up only five hits, and striking out six.
UNA at a Glance
North Alabama enters this weekend's series with a 5-2 record on the year. They dropped two out of three games in their last seriesin Mobile, Ala. against Spring Hill. The Lions currently sit at second in the GSC with a team batting average of .351. They have eight players batting above .300, led by senior Kevin Hall who is hitting .480 so far in 2016. The Lions are also fifth in the GSC with a team ERA of 2.28. Riley Sanderson is 2-0 on the year and has pitched 11.1 innings without giving up an earned run. UNA is coached by Mike Keehn.
When and Where
The series will take place Friday and Saturday, February 19-20 at Mike D. Lane Field in Florence, Ala. Game one of the series will take place Friday at 2:00 PM EST with game two to start approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one. The final game will be Saturday at 2:00 PM EST.
