Carrollton, GA - After a big 17-0 win over Emmanuel College last weekend, the University of West Georgia baseball team now prepares for a weekend series against Pfeiffer University at Cole Field.
Wolves Last Weekend
The Wolves put up 17 runs on 16 hits in their opening game, including six extra-base hits. The Wolves started off the game strong with a lead off home run by senior
Tyler Hutch. The big inning for the Wolves was third. UWG put up ten runs on five hits in the bottom half of the third.
Third baseman
Ben Utley and second baseman
Artemis Kadkhodaian had a two-RBI double each.
Caleb Lopes also drove in a run with a single. Senior
Payton Mann supplied the power for the Wolves with a three-run homerun.
Overall West Georgia had ten different players with a hit. Freshman
Cade Marlowe singled in two runs in his first career at-bat, while veteran designated hitter
Garrett Hayes had three hits and scored two runs.
The Wolves pitching staff was equally impressive giving up only two hits over nine innings.
Matthew Norton got the win throwing four hitless innings.
Brandon Goldsmith,
Ethan Hunter, and
Tyler Gunnin split the other five innings, giving up two hits. Goldsmith had five strikeouts in three innings pitched.
Pfeiffer at a Glance
The Falcons lost two out of three games to Mars Hill in their opening weekend series. They hit .283 as a team on the weekend, including .315 slugging percentage. The Falcons scored ten runs on 26 hits against Mars Hill, including three doubles. Sophomore Jordan Eckard hit .455 on the weekend with an RBI. Derek Perry had four hits with two doubles.
Pfeiffer gave up 13 runs on 24 hits in the opening weekend, but only six of 13 runs were earned. The Falcons had a team ERA of 2.16. Senior Zach Huneycutt led the Falcons, throwing seven innings in game two of the series, giving up two earned runs and striking out seven.

The Wolves and Falcons are set to begin their weekend series Saturday at 1:00 PM EST at Cole Field. Game two is set to begin thirty minutes after the conclusion of game one. The final game will be Sunday at 1:00 PM EST.
