Carrollton, GA - The University of West Georgia Wolves moved to 3-0 on the year as they defeated the Pfeiffer University Falcons in back-to-back games on Saturday afternoon. A combined two runs decided the two games.
Game 1
The first game of the day was a thriller as the Wolves puled out a 5-4 win against Pfeiffer. The Wolves opened up the scoring in the bottom of the second inning when centerfielder
Drew Eady drove in
Garrett Hayes.
Pfeiffer would respond with three runs on four hits in the top of the third inning. Damon Smith and John Elwood singled to start the inning, followed by a Xavier Rodriguez walk to load the bases. Jordan Eckard then singled scoring two runners. That knocked out starting pitcher
Matthew Norton. The Falcons would add one more run to take a 3-1 lead.
The next scoring opportunity for the Wolves was in the bottom of the fourth as
Caleb Lopes hit a double scoring
Dalton Rogers to cut the lead to one. In the fifth,
Tyler Hutch hit a long solo homerun to tie the game at three.
In the top of the seventh the Falcons took the lead on a Cody McKenzie single that scored Jordan Eckard. The Wolves responded in the bottom of the inning, scoring on a sacrifice fly from
Dalton Rogers, tying the game at 4-4.
The score was tied at 4-4 heading into the bottom of the ninth inning. The Wolves came up big as
Dalton Rogers scored
Artemis Kadkhodaian, who had doubled to start the innng, to win the game.
Mitchell Mannino got the win for the Wolves, going 2.1 innings without giving up a hit. The Wolves bullpen threw 6.2 innings, giving up only one earned run.
Drew Eady was 2-4 with an RBI.
Dalton Rogers had the walk-off hit and two RBIs in the game.
Game 2
The Falcons began the scoring in game two, picking up a run on a Cody McKenzie RBI single in the top of the second inning. The Wolves responded, as they did all day, with a single run in the bottom of the second. The Wolves loaded the bases, but could only manage one run on a double play.
That ended the scoring until the bottom of the fourth inning.
Garrett Hayes scored on a two-out RBI single by
Drew Eady. Eady advanced to second on the throw, and then scored on a single by
Ben Utley.
Pfeiffer battled back with a single run in the fifth inning, but they could not muster another run as the Wolves went on to win 3-2 in seven innings.
Caleb Lopes went 2-3 in game two and
Drew Eady had a hit and RBI.
Josh Morgan got the win throwing 1.1 innings of no hit ball.
Joe Vonderschmidt threw 2.2 innings, giving up only one hit while striking out four.
