Carrollton, GA - The University of West Georgia Wolves baseball team carries some winning momentum into a big GSC series, as they travel to Pensacola, FL to take on the West Florida Argonauts. The Wolves enter the series with a 15-6 overall record, including a 6-6 record in the Gulf South Conference. UWF sits at 14-10 with an 8-4 record in the conference.
Wolves Last Game
West Georgia has won three of their last four games, including a 12-10 win over North Georgia on Wednesday. The Wolves got down 6-0 early in the game, but an offensive explosion allowed them to get back in the game, eventually claiming the lead.
Dalton Rogers started the scoring for West Georgia with a two-run homerun in the bottom of the second inning.
Artemis Kadkhodaian cut the lead to two runs in the fourth inning with another two-run homerun.
Cade Marlowe tied the game in the fourth, hitting his first career homerun, a two run shot to centerfield, making it a 6-6 ballgame heading to the fifth.
North Georgia added a pair of runs in the top of the fifth, but West Georgia responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning to came their first lead of the game.
Garrett Hayes singled in a run, and
Caleb Lopes scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at 8-8.
Dalton Rogers drove in his third RBI on a single, and
Cade Marlowe doubled to score Rogers, making it a 10-8 game.
The Nighthawks cut the lead to one in the top of the sixth, but
Artemis Kadkhodaian ripped his second two-run homerun of the game in the bottom of the inning, making the score 12-9. UNG added one more run, but UWG held on to win 12-10.
West Florida at a Glance
The Argonauts are hitting .288 on the season, which puts them in eighth place in the conference. Kyle Hamner leads the team with a .361 batting average. Nic Strasser has hit .323 on the year and leads the team with five homeruns and 23 RBIs. West Florida leads the GSC with a team ERA of 2.71. Walker O'Connor is 4-1 on the year with a 2.12 ERA. West Florida is the only team this season to defeat the University of Tampa Spartans, who are first in the nation in every major poll. The Argonauts are coached by Mike Jeffcoat.
