UWG Travels to Lee for GSC Baseball

Carrollton, GA - The University of West Georgia baseball team looks to get back on track this weekend as they travel to Cleveland, TN to take on the Lee Flames in a three-game GSC weekend series. The Wolvers enter the weekend 9-4 on the season with a 2-4 record in conference. Lee has a 7-8 record on the year with a 1-5 record in GSC play.

Wolves Last Weekend
The Wolves are coming off a weekend where they dropped two out of three games to the Alabama Huntsville Chargers in a weekend series at Cole Field. West Georgia fell in game one by a score of 6-4. The Wolves looked good early, taking a 4-0 lead through two innings, but UAH then scored six straight runs to win the game. Caleb Lopes led UWG going 2-3 with an RBI. TJ Watson threw 3.1 innings in the game, giving up two runs but none were earned.

Game two was all Wolves as UWG won 11-2. UAH got two runs in the first inning, but West Georgia responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. The Wolves then scored four runs in the second and third innings to take a commanding lead. UWG added a single run in the fifth to finish the scoring in the seven-inning game. Colton Duttweiler got the win, pitching five innings and giving up two runs while striking out four. Caleb Lopes and Artemis Kadkhodaian each hit a homerun in the game. Lopes led the Wolves would four RBIs.

Game three was a tough one for UWG as they fell to the Chargers 14-6. The Wolves had a 3-2 lead headed to the fourth inning, but UAH scored three runs in the fourth and fifth to take the lead. Tyler Hutch had two hits and scored two runs in the game. Garrett Hayes was 3-4 with and RBI and run scored. Dalton Rogers led the Wolves with three RBIs on a three-run homerun.

Lee at a Glance
Lee split a midweek season with Bellarmine University in their last two contests. They are hitting .274 on the season as a team, led by senior Ben Holland who is third in the GSC with a .481 average in 2016. Holland also leads the GSC with nine homeruns on the season. Lee is tenth in the GSC in ERA with a 5.88 team ERA.

When and Where
The Wolves and Flames will play a doubleheader on Saturday followed by a single game on Sunday. Game one of the Saturday doubleheader is set for 2:00 p.m. at Olympic Field in Cleveland, TN. Game two will begin approximately thirty minutes after the conclusion of game one. Game three is set for Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Updates will be available via the Twitter handle @UWGAthletics.
