Carrollton, GA - The West Georgia baseball team has been on a dominant run and it continued on Sunday afternoon as the Wolves beat Valdosta State 7-3 to complete the Gulf South Conference sweep. The Wolves (30-10, 19-9 GSC) had 12 hits in the game and have matched their best record since 1998 at 30-10. That was the Wolves thirteenth straight win and third straight conference series sweep.
How It Happened
It took three innings for either team to break through, but Valdosta State scored first on a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning. West Georgia responded though, as
Tyler Hutch singled to begin the bottom of the fourth.
Drew Eady then doubled with one out to put runners on second and third. Hutch then scored on a groundout by
Ben Utley to tie the game at 1-1.
The bottom of the fifth inning started well for UWG as
Cade Marlowe doubled to begin the inning.
Caleb Lopes then singled before
Dalton Rogers hit a long homerun to centerfield to give him 44 RBI on the year and give UWG a 4-1 lead.
A bases loaded walk from
Tyler Hutch gave West Georgia a single run in the bottom of the sixth. Another bases loaded walk, this time by
Dalton Rogers, gave West Georgia a single run in the seventh and a 6-1 lead.
Valdosta State was able to score two runs in the top of the eighth to cut the lead to three, but a solo homerun from
Drew Eady in the bottom of the inning gave West Georgia the final lead at 7-3.
Josh Morgan moved to 4-0 on the season as he was superb as the starter. The senior pitched seven innings, giving up only two earned runs while striking out nine.
Mitchell Mannino threw two innings of relief, striking out two and allowing only one unearned run.
Every UWG starter had a hit in the contest.
Cade Marlowe was 2-5 with two runs scored.
Drew Eady was 2-5 with a homerun. Also,
Payton Mann was 2-3.
Dalton Rogers led the Wolves with four RBI, including a three-run homerun.

West Georgia will be on the road Tuesday as they travel to Young Harris, GA to take on the Young Harris Mountain Lions in a midweek contest. That game is set for a 5:00 p.m. EST first pitch.
