UWG reenters rankings, takes on Young Harris

Carrollton, GA - The West Georgia baseball team looks to add to their thirteen game win streak as they head to Young Harris, GA to take on the Young Harris Mountain Lions in midweek action. The Wolves (30-10, 18-9 Gulf South Conference) are coming off an impressive three-game sweep of the Valdosta State Blazers over the weekend. Young Harris comes in on a six-game losing streak, including dropping all three games to Montevallo this past weekend.

Last Matchup
This will be the second meeting between the Wolves and Mountain Lions, as West Georgia took game one by a score 10-1 on February 16 at Cole Field. Young Harris took the early lead with a run in the first inning.

West Georgia responded though as they scored ten straight runs to win the game 10-1. Drew Eady drove in two runs in the second inning on a double. Payton Mann then doubled, driving in Eady in the process. Tyler Hutch then doubled, driving in Payton Mann.

The Wolves added two runs in the third inning on a sacrifice fly from Garrett Hayes and a bases loaded hit-by-pitch by Payton Mann. Caleb Lopes added a two-run homerun in the fourth, followed by a bases loaded walk by Eady to give UWG a 9-1 lead. A sacrifice fly from Dalton Rogers added the final run in the fifth inning.

West Georgia had thirteen hits, led by Caleb Lopes and Cade Marlowe with three each. TJ Watson got the win, throwing five innings and striking out six. Dalton Reagin, Ethan Hunter, and Tritt Fennell combined for four hitless innings, including five strikeouts.

Wolves in Rankings
The West Georgia baseball team re-entered the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper national poll this week, coming in at 23rd in the nation. The Wolves enter as the third highest ranked Gulf South Conference team, behind only Delta State and West Florida. The Wolves are also ranked in the NCBWA regional poll, coming in at sixth in the region. Also ranked are Delta State, West Alabama, Alabama Huntsville, and Lee.

Young Harris at a Glance
The Mountain Lions (12-30, 6-18 Peach Belt Conference) are hitting .269 as a team on the 2016 season. Zach Wells leads the team with a .333 BA. He has eight homeruns and 28 RBI as well. Nick Sexton has a .331 BA, including thirteen doubles and 30 RBI. Young Harris has a team ERA of 7.69 on the season. Brent Thomas is 1-0 with a 4.67 ERA. He has thirteen strikeouts compared to five walks on the season.
