Carrollton, GA - The West Georgia Wolves were impressive on Saturday afternoon as they took both games from the Shorter Hawks. The Wolves moved to 21-10 on the year, but more importantly moved to 11-9 in the Gulf South Conference. The Wolves currently hold on to the sixth seed in the GSC, which would place them in the GSC tournament.
Game One
The game started out as a pitching duel as neither team was able to score through the first three innings. The Wolves were able to break through in the fourth as
Caleb Lopes started the inning with a single.
Dalton Rogers then walked before Artemis Kadkhodain reached on a fielder's choice, but a throwing error allowed Rogers to score. That gave UWG a 1-0 lead.
The fifth inning for the Wolves began with a
Ben Utley walk. With one out Utley stole second and
Tyler Hutch singled to put Wolves on first and second base. With two outs,
Caleb Lopes walked and then Utley scored on a balk by the Hawks. After a
Dalton Rogers walk
Artemis Kadkhodaian doubled, scoring Lopes and Hutch.
The top of the seventh began roughly for West Georgia as the Hawks loaded the bases with no one out. A Shorter single scored a run and
Turner Edwards entered the game for the Wolves with the bases loaded and still no one out. He then worked out of the inning, allowing no more runs to score.
The Wolves added their final run in the bottom of the seventh on a
Dalton Rogers sacrifice fly.
Tyler Hutch had a hit and scored two runs for UWG.
Artemis Kadkhodaian was 2-4 with two RBI.
Brandon Goldsmith got the win pitching six innings, giving up only one run.
Turner Edwards threw three innings, giving up no runs, and picking up his first save.
Game Two
Game two started with Shorter picking up an early run in the top of the first. West Georgia took over from there scoring nine straight runs to en
d the game.
Chase Waters doubled in the second inning to drive in the Wolves first run.
Dalton Rogers walked and stole second to begin the fourth inning for UWG.
Garrett Hayes then singled to give West Georgia two on with none out.
Chase Waters then reached on an error, allowing
Dalton Rogers to score.
Cade Marlowe then singled to score another West Georgia run.
Dalton Rogers drove in another run for West Georgia in the fifth on a sacrifice fly that scored
Artemis Kadkhodaian. The Wolves broke the game open in the sixth, scoring five runs in the inning.
Payton Mann singled to drive in a run.
Tyler Hutch then doubled, driving in
Ben Utley and
Payton Mann.
Artemis Kadkhodaian tripled, driving in Hutch.
Caleb Lopes ended the scoring with another sacrifice fly.
Matthew Norton threw all seven innings, giving up no earned runs and striking out five.
Payton Mann and
Cade Marlowe each had two hits.
Tyler Hutch had two RBI and scored a run.
Chase Waters also had two RBI.
