CARROLLTON, GA - There's just one midweek game remaining on the schedule for the UWG baseball team as the Wolves host Georgia Southwestern on Tuesday evening at 5 p.m. at Cole Field.
The Wolves are 8-1 this year in midweek games with the only loss coming to North Georgia on the road. One of those wins came against Georgia Southwestern on the road. The Wolves won that game 14-4 in seven innings and were led by
Garrett Hayes at the plate. In that win, the senior outfielder was 4-for-4 with a double and six RBI.
West Georgia is coming off of a tough weekend where they saw their winning streak end at 15, and dropped two of three to conference foe West Alabama. The Wolves will look to bounce back on Tuesday in the final midweek game and ahead of the final conference series against Union.
Caleb Lopes leads the Wolves in hitting as the junior shortstop is batting .417 on the season with 15 doubles and five home runs. Lopes also leads in slugging percentage with .609 and on-base percentage at .525.
In the last ten games, West Georgia has gotten huge contributions from three seniors in
Dalton Rogers,
Tyler Hutch, and
Garrett Hayes. The senior trio is a combined 40-for-111 with eight homers and 42 RBI in that span.
The Wolves are currently ranked seventh in the NCBWA South Region Poll, and await the release of the official NCAA South Region poll which will be released early this week.
The Wolves and Hurricanes are set for first pitch at 5 p.m. on Tuesday evening from Cole Field in Carrollton.
